What should I do if I
experience problems with my
Internet service?

Customer support telephone
lines are open Monday
through Friday 8:00 a.m. to
8:00 p.m. to assist you in
resolving any problems with
your service. We usually
have people working until
after 8:00p.m.—often times
later—to help those who
don't work "normal" hours.
If you ever experience
problem with logging on, or
connecting, PLEASE CALL US
no matter what time. If no
one is around leave a
message and we will get back
to you as soon as possible.
Please write down the error
message you received and
have it ready when you call
in.
Upon logging on I get a
response that my password is
incorrect?

If you have trouble logging
in or get a message on your
screen saying that you have
entered the wrong password,
then try re-entering them.
Things to watch for: Your
username and password are
case sensitive. Your
password is all lower case,
check to see if you have
your cap-locks on. Another
reason you may get this
message is if you have not
paid your bill. If you have
tried the above suggestions
and are still having
problems, just call in we'll
help you get connected.
When I check my e-mail I
get a POP3 timeout error,
what can I do?
This is sometimes caused by
the Version 4 of Outlook
Express. Outlook Express
Version 4 is incompatibility
with certain other E-mail
clients. This can be fixed
by installing either the
latest version of Internet
Explorer/Outlook Express or
the SP1 for version 4. You
can obtain a copy of the
latest version of Internet
Explorer/Outlook Express by
stopping by either our
Paris or Casey offices
and asking for the updated
Internet Explorer CD.
When is the best time to
login?

Usually it is best to login
during off hours; however,
you should be able to login
at ANY TIME! Generally, 7
p.m. - 9 p.m. are the
busiest hours, but this is
not always true. Here at
Computer Wares, we monitor
the lines to see when they
are busy, when we see busy
lines on a regular basis, we
order more lines and
equipment.
What does "Unlimited Access"
Mean?

Unlimited means active usage
by you the user, typing and
clicking away at the
keyboard, actively surfing
the web.
It does NOT mean:
-
Pinging the connection
-
Leaving the connection
up to check e-mail all
day/night
-
Running an ftp, web, or
warez server.
-
Leaving the connection
open all of the time
without any input from
you.
If you would like to have a
dedicated, or full time
connection to Computer
Wares, contact the
sales for pricing.
What kind of connection does
Computer Wares have to the
Internet?
Computer Wares network
infrastructure consists of a T1
connection. We connect to the
2nd largest backbone provider in
the World. This connection is a
high availability connection
that is super speedy. We do not
have more than 1 hop onto the
Internet when you dial in, and
you receive a live IP address,
thus the bottleneck is created
on the dial-up connection, and
not at the provider.
What kind of modems does
Computer Wares use?

We use Rockwell Chipset modems.
After numerous tests and trials,
we have found Rockwell(now
Conxient) to be the superior
chipset provider for dial-up
access. Our servers, support
both V.90 and 56Flex access, to
provide you, our customer, the
most efficient up-to-date access
we can provide. We continually
upgrade our systems to keep busy
lines to a minimum, and
authentication fast and
reliable.
Why doesn't my modem connect
at 56k?

Even though the standard is 56K
and the modem is capable of 56K,
don't expect it. First of all,
the FCC regulates it to a
maximum of 53K and the phone
switching equipment that Verizon
and most phone companies use
will not pass data above around
50K. Next the quality and length
of your phone line from the
phone company central office
greatly effects your connection
speed. Also, if you go through
any additional phone company
equipment from the central
office to your location, your
connection speed may be even
less than 33.6K. For example the
phone company can split one
phone line into two with an
electronic device called a
digital AML (line splitter). We
find these devices to support
around 22K. The phone company
also uses what is called
subscriber carrier which
supports several users
simultaneously over the same
wires. We find these devices to
support not more than 9600 baud.
Subscriber carrier is mainly
used in remote areas of the
county where they have limited
cable pairs.

Why are some sites really
fast and others really slow?
There are several factors which
can affect a sights download
time. Heavy network traffic (alot
of people using the Net). Slow
Internet connection on the
hosting sites server—some Web
Servers are connected via modem,
ISDN, DSL, cable, dedicated
lines, or Wireless, and run at
speed considerably less than
that of a T1 or T3 connection.
Another reason for a slow site
is the load the sever is
carrying and type of server
being used, if it lacks RAM, and
processor speed, or is
configured to accept more
connections than it can handle,
it is going to be slow. For
example, there are two key sites
we have found to be the slowest
on the web: #1 is Microsoft, #2
is Netscape, this would appear
to be the result of the
overwhelming traffic that these
sites get.
How do I know if I have a
virus on my computer?

You can purchase software that
will check your computer for
viruses. Two of the most notable
Anti-Virus companies:
McAfee or
Norton.
